Apple has released a new version of iOS, the release of which was not previously planned. The update was made available due to the vulnerability in the FaceTime service. MacOS was also updated.
Users must download approximately 100 MB (iPhone XS – 99 MB). If the update message does not appear automatically, the availability should be checked manually. To do this, go to Settings, then General and click on Updates.
Apple removes the vulnerability in Group FaceTime
The new version, which is marked as iOS 12.1.4, removes the vulnerability found in FaceTime. Interestingly, it was discovered by a 14-year-old, who drew attention to the problem with the group FaceTime, when he arranged to play Fortnite with friends. It turned out that it is possible to eavesdrop on other participants in the conversation, even if they did not receive the call.
Apple, after media coverage, decided to react. FaceTime has been turned off and the appropriate patch has been announced. In addition, Tim Cook has announced that he is going to reward a teenager who has found a hole in the software.
macOS also received a small update
A patch for the macOS system was also released, which also restores FaceTime on Mac computers. It is worth noting that the official Apple website, informing about the state of the services, already shows the full efficiency of the FaceTime service.
